During his 30 years in the Army, Brian knew that he eventually wanted to own his own business, be his own boss with a product that he believed in. When Brian was ready to hang up his camouflage, Brian found his calling in the baking industry! Before Brian took over the long standing Baker’s Delight in Leichhardt’s Norton Plaza he spent 3 months training at two other Baker’s Delights to learn everything about the business from baking to sales to admin and logistics. Brian is friendly with an East Yorkshire accent, he tells me that similarly to all of the other retailers I’ve been speaking with his shop has a familiar feel. They know their customer’s names and their regular orders.
Brian currently has 4 experienced bakers that start work at 3AM. Now I’m an early riser but that is early early. Something tells me that I will never succeed in a career as a baker – not only am I useless in the kitchen but my standard wake up time (5:45AM) just doesn’t cut it.
The assortment of product is impressive and I haven’t even gotten to the aroma! Low GI bread, cheese and vegemite roles, ham and mayo twirl, sweet chilli twisted delight and don’t even get me started on the sweet rolls (think: Berry, apple, custard, chocolate – pretty much everything you can imagine).
